Why Are The Elites Still Taking US Helicopter Rides?
The fact that people still carry on with helicopter rides in the US is still a mystery. I know it is not the same as the car crashes or so, but the fact that influential people take these rides to escape the road traffic, only to end up dead. In the last 10 years, several influential individuals have tragically lost their lives while taking helicopter rides in the United States to arrive at their destination fast and safely. Still, in certain instances, this hasn’t been the case:

On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and 7 Others on board a helicopter lost their lives in a helicopter crash. The crash broke the hearts of the whole world, fans, especially the remaining members of the Bryant family, who had to endure the videos posted all over social media. The family had to ignore this video, choosing to look away and survive the horror and their new reality, and they grieved.

On April 10, 2025, Siemens executive Agustín Escobar, his wife, and their 3 children died when their sightseeing helicopter broke apart midair and crashed into the Hudson River near Manhattan during the day, with people in sight.

All six individuals aboard the helicopter, including the pilot, lost their lives. This was the latest crash at the time of writing this post, which reminded everyone again of the horror that lies midair. Many eyewitnesses didn’t even realise it was a crash, because it landed in the river swiftly. Still, the pieces of the helicopter came flying into the river, which then helped the people around realise what had happened.

Bernalillo County First Responders on July 16, 2022. Four Bernalillo County first responders, Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lt. Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison, and Fire Rescue Specialist Matthew King, lost their lives when their Bell UH-1H helicopter crashed while returning from a firefighting mission.

This was a set of emergency officers who ended up losing their lives while returning from a training to better serve their community. The air that seemed safe and faster than land ended up being the most unsafe for them at the time, leading to their deaths, in one of the most gruesome ways possible.

The Black Hawk Collision in Washington, D.C, on January 29, 2025, where a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with American Eagle Flight 5342 over Washington, D.C. at night, bursting into flames, which caught the attention of many, resulting in the deaths of all 67 people aboard both aircraft.

The crash occurred over the icy Potomac River and is considered the deadliest U.S. aviation accident in nearly 25 years. It was so unexpected that many thought it was an attack on the US aviation, because it was very avoidable and preventable. It seemed casual, yet it took so many lives.

Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son crashed to their death while on a helicopter ride to the games in 2024. The Wigwes, former Nigerian Stock Exchange chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo, died in a helicopter crash in the Mojave Desert near the California-Nevada border.

The incident also claimed the lives of two pilots, bringing the total to at least 6. This rocked Nigeria, where Access Bank is based. He was so influential in the country and threw them into mourning.

Country music star Troy Gentry, co-founder of the duo Montgomery Gentry, was killed on September 8, 2017, during a sightseeing flight in Medford, New Jersey. The helicopter crashed following engine trouble during a power-off landing attempt.

Conclusion
While this list is nothing in comparison to the road accidents, the helicopter crash is becoming more common these days, and many still go on it, even after comparing or taking note of the victims, and this is because they hope that they won’t be victims, so they ask questions like:

Have the engines been maintained? They have the Engineer do a thorough check, and they ask if the pilot is a good one. Now I know a handful of individuals who would still go through this route rather than getting stuck in traffic.

I wanted to advise people otherwise, but looking at the fact that people tend to do whatever it is they have to do, and hope that it doesn’t cost them too much. I just step aside and let the world be.
