Nigerians fume As former president dies In London

While it may seem like the happiest people on earth are Nigerians, their political issues maybe one reason they have mastered the act of overlooking ongoing hurts from decades ago, that was brought singlehandedly by politics.

As expected, every era is marked by the performance of the leader.
This is because no aspect of Nigerian society acts independent of the President. The President literally has a strong hold on every aspect of society, so when anthing goes south, the President is fully held accountable.

So all that happened during his regime, has been attached to his name, because that was his regime, and that includes the unforgettable “End Sars” protest back in 2020,
in Lagos state nigeria where many people experienced horror, as the military stepped in and tried to disperse the protester by shooting.

Many people were feared dead, while the authority denied that ever happening.
The Nation is supposed to be in mourning, but let us see how much of it is been observed by the fed up Nigerians.

While the medical state of the country was not a priority to the politicians, they silmply made their medical trips to countries that have worked on their medical side of sector.

He went to London as a former president, and came back as a cargo instead. How sad? A Nigerian Doctor reacted to this, on social media by writing :

“while former president couldn’t build one hospital that cab attend to him- not one hospital in his state-not anywhere in the whoe entire country- after spending a while 8 years in office- and still end up dying in a london hospital bed.what a shame, what not utter disgrace.”

A former Head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakr, during his tribute to the late former president also revealed that he was hospitalised in the same hospital in London, before the former president passed. He revealed that during his interview with Channels television, he revealed:

“Unfortunately, we were in the same hospital together, but I have been discharged. So when I heard the news of his passing away,
I quickly went there to condole with the family and see what could be done in order to get the corpse ready to be taken home,” he said.

The late former president once apologised for the hurt he has caused people during his tenure, but i guess a general apologise doesn’t cut it for Nigerians, because they are still counting his sins.

The current vice president, Shettima, who is the vice president to President Tinubu, also represented the nation and flew down to the United Kingdom to receive the corpse of the former President.
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and Akufo-Addo, visited Shettima, woke was in London as soon as the news broke.

Former President Muhammad Buhari died in London’s largest private hospital, and many belive this was incredibly expensive, Sowore revealed the exact mount paid.

Powered the former President aspirant revealed that the late former president’s treatment was incurring Nigerian about £3000 pounds a night, up until his death.
In the name of all that is good, why didn’t he fix the hospitals in Nigeria in the 8 years that he ws President? Atleats one hospita, none at all?
On X, formerly twitter, many Nigerian youths are reacting to the news in the ways that best fit them.
The handle @flygodT, wrote ‘This is Buhari’s Legacy, people that killed thousands of Nigerians he reinstated them into the society like it was normal, if you say I should respect the dead, you go join am.”
She showed a picture from the news paper back in 2020, where 602 book haram members were pardoned and financially compensated after killing so many people in Nigeria. Buhari did the pardoning though, incase you were wondering.

Another user name @UncleAyo also wrote ” The sins and legacy of Buhari.

After President Tinubu’s regume declared a day of mourning the former presidnet, A twitter handle @Fisayosoyombo wrote: Declaring Tuesday a public holiday over Buhari’s passing betrays our aversion to work as a people.
Our work culture , especially in the civil service , is atrocious. A period of national mourning, yes. Flags fly at half mast, yes. But an abandonment of work? This government is clearly run by the quitters.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not been seen, because he also has his health challenges, but Vice-President Kashim Shettima paid a condolence visit to Buhari’s family in London.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) described Buhari as a patriotic servant leader who stood with the people and put the country first, no matter the cost .

Other Countries have also joined in on the condolence wishes to Nigeria.
Assessing Buhari’s Legacy
Buhari’s tenure as President from 2015 to 2023 was marked by significant decisions, including the fight against corruption and efforts to boost the economy. His administration implemented various policies, some of which received praise and others criticism.
The Petroleum Industry Act, enacted during his term, has led to $16 billion in investment commitments in the past two years, according to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Endsars era was during his regime, the term “Lazy Nigerian Youths” was invented by his very own lips, a name Nigerian youths have asked him to apologise for, for years.
However, mnay people with employment power, are now coming out to back what the president said years ago concerning the Nigerian youths.
He allowed the Boko haram terror group guys to go free, without financial compensation handed out to them, after the killed thousands of people.
Mixed Reactions from Nigerians
As news of Buhari’s passing spread, Nigerians took to social media to share their thoughts and reflections.
While some hailed his contributions to the nation, others expressed mixed feelings about his legacy. The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) described him as a patriot and elder statesman who boosted Nigeria’s democracy with his “never-quit” spirit.
Trust me when I say you do not want to read the comments that I have littered all over social media, by Nigerians. They didn’t hold back their thoughts, and that was from the heart.
His Funeral Arrangements
The Federal Government has announced that Buhari’s remains will arrive in Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, at 12 PM, ahead of his burial in Daura, Katsina State. A committee, headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has been set up to coordinate the funeral arrangements.
The Presidency has also postponed a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session originally scheduled for Tuesday to honor the late former President. Buhari was a Muslim, and that meant he was yo be buried within 24 hours of his death.
But seeing that he died in London, his remains would be returned to Nigeria in a cargo box, before his burial can hold. This is why he will be buried days after his death, rather than with the 24 hour of his death.
Reflecting on Buhari’s Impact
Reflecting Buhari’s Impact would be a long assessment, because he was a military ruler at first, before becoming the president in 2015, after Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. His legacy is however a big subject of discussion, with everyone having a unique idea of noise Impact on them and their family.
From his military background to his presidency, he did all manner of things to people, and they remember it, because not too long ago he was President.
However, Buhari’s impact on Nigeria’s history is undeniable. His leadership style and policies have left a lasting impression on the nation, in various ways, and his passing marks the end of an era.
In the words of the NLC, “For us in the labour movement, President Buhari was a leader who understood the struggles of the ordinary Nigerian.”
But the burning question here is: Did he better the life of an ordinary Nigerian?the answer to this question depends on who you ask,
because the people who benefited would say “yes”, and those who didn’t, would day “No”. As the nation awaits the arrival of his remains, to bid farewell to its former leader, they hope things change.
They hope for a better leader, and leader with strategy and not just corruption and looting silently, a leader whonwill transform the country into one of tea countries these same leaders travel to, for their medical trips. Nigerians have been failed counterless times, they still remain hopeful for the future.
