Nigerian feeling severely targetted by Mp Rupert Lowe for his recent X post. According to an X post of Mp Rupert Lowe on X socila media platform, where made some strong allegation against Nigerians and their alleged inability to speak English. Let us dissect the load of false claims, shall we?
The MP wrote “The reaction from thr NHS staff to me raising concerns about the language skills/competence of foreign nationals working in hospitals, had been astounding.

But actually the most important step for now is to openly hightlight it.we’ve accepted countless workers who are not up to the job, from Nigeria, the Phillipines and many other countries.

First of, let us get to know this man, before we breakdown the lopeholes in his tale. Rupert Lowe is a British Politician and the chairman of Southampton Football Club from 1996 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2009, who was initially a businessman, who was elected as a Reforn UK Member of Parliament back in 2024, for Great Yarmouth. He now sits as an independent, as a result of a suspension.
Lowe’s political journey began with the Conservative Party, but he left in 1993 after questioning the Maastricht Treaty. He later stood as a Referendum Party candidate in 1997 and joined the Brexit Party (now Reform UK) in 2019, serving as an MEP for the West Midlands until 2020. Lowe founded Restore Britain in June 2025, advocating for deportation of illegal immigrants and protection of British culture.
It is fair to say that he controversy in this post will not be MP Lowe’s first, as he once faced a bullying allegation wgich he denied.
Now that wr have met MP Lowe, let us take look at Nigeria, and Nigerians as a Country, and a people. Nigeria as a country, in the entire class rooms, institutions, political and professional setting of Nigeria is done in English, despite have over 200 tribes/languages.

Nigerians communicate FLUENTLY in English. They read and write fluently in English. Nigerians are such ambitious and school smart, that they have been termed the most Educated black nation.
Nigerians are found in all works of life, they literally have a representation in every trade of life, who is doing so well. Americans have termed Nigerian the most educated black Nation, with a better house hold income than anyother Black nation.
A typical Nigerian had a BSc, an MSc, and a more ambitious ones hold their PhD certificate. Nigerians are disturbingly Educated to be rubbished by MP Lowe, who did little or no research to come to such provoking conclusion, that Nigerians can’t communicate in English. Does the MP have a problem with Nigerians?
Nigerian Doctors hve taken over in the health sector in Countries like the UK, US, Canada and more. Which is why many wonder if this is the source of MP Lowe’s anger.
Now, in the Uk, Nigerians hold down a good number of significant medical roles in the NHS, along side Phillipinos, Indians, Iranians, and people of other countries. But do you know the difference between Nigerians and these other countries?
Nigerian is the one black country, and the only country whose lingua franca (Official Language of communication), is English, even though a typical Nigerian speaks over two languages, like igbo, hausa,yoruba, pidgin, and English.
This then further makes it even more confusing, that MP Lowe would single out the only country with English and their official language of communication, and say they lack the ability to communicate in English. To further prove that this is a big made up lie by the MP, I will tell you the intense english language rules and process the UK has imposed on any Nigeria intending to come to the UK.
An uneducated Nigeria, or a Nigerian who didn’t pass English language in their undergraduate studies, is required to pass an English language test set by the UK. Those going to other countries also have to take, and pass the english language set by those Countries.
Half of the Nigerians coming into the UK, are MSc students in a UK Universities. So if they can’t communicate, when they are made to take and pass English language exams that even the native englsih speaks can’t pass, only to be told by a racist MP, that they lack the ability. How many Nigerians has the MP personally come across, to form this strong conclusion?
He said it twice in his accusation, that he wasn’t being racist, as if that changes anything. It is likened to a thief seen stealing and yelling “I am not a thief”, or a criminal denying his crime while at it.
If you say that the whole Nigerians in the NHS are not qualified, that is such a ridiculous thing to say, a shameful thing to be caught saying, for someone of his age.
Why did the MP, who claimed to be making a general observation about people who can’t communicate in English, and he boldly put Nigeria there, and takes away the other Countries like India, Pakistan, Iran and so many others.
Is the MP bothered by the height of ambitiousness that Nigerians possess? Was that post really about english language, or a clear 2025 threat on a group of innocent black people?
These Nigerians forgo their family and loved ones back home, go through the UK set criteria, from qulification and finance, to come practice their work here in the UK, treating and nursing back the old and ill back to health in the UK, and the thanks they get for it, will be them bejng linked to something like this which is no evn suppose to have Nigeria in it.
If the MP is questioning the qualification of these individuals, then take it up with the Human resource unit, the hiring team. You literally say a whole country of people in an industry, can’t communicate in English?
Maybe now is the time send some pure english youths to medical school, to get their full medical trainings, so they can occuph these roles, and that would bring the MP some sleep at night, because you were very clever to have boldly mentioned Nigerians, while you comfortably made other obvious countries in the “And Others”.
When Nigerians, just like anyother country people commit a crime, by all means, please walk them through the conviction process, and persecute them. But when you pick on thrm for no apparent reason, then it clearly smells fishy.
You are so consumed by your resentment for Nigerians that you didn’t google, to know if Nigerians speak fluent engliah back home. You would think that for the people in England, yoh would hear queen’s english, but it is always shocking the kind of english we correct here in the UK.
Everyone is not person in English, i have come to realise. So when you raise or even place a standard, how many of the english people can actually hit and surpass it?
The Mp is taking a bold step in stating somethinv he has held in for so long, and Nigerians don’t think it is the english language that is the reason, so patience is clearly needed on their path, giving enough time for the MP to come clean in his plans against innocent black people.
If he needs a reason, let me suggest that next time, he doesn’t use ‘English Language’ as a tool, because it is not true.
Conclusion
MP Lowe seems to have a personal beef with Nigerians, as he claims that they lack the ability to communicate in English, because on a professional level, this doesn’t look legitimate, and until he provides evidence to this claim, everything he hs said, will be considered false, as he is yet to really say what he has against the beautiful Nigerians.
