10 Simple Hacks to Keep Your Bathroom Looking Fresh and Clean
If just like me you love to have clean bathrooms and toilets and you don’t mind cleaning them yourself as often as required, then you have no problem, because you create what you want to see.

But for those who love clean bathrooms and toilets, but can’t bring themselves to making it clean, this hack is for you. Because it is either you have enough money to pay and get your bathroom clean, or you have to be encouraged enough to do it yourself. Now what other encouragement is better than the hacks?

Keeping your bathroom clean and fresh can sometimes feel like an uphill battle, especially when it is being shared with others who are nonchalant with the constant use. However, with a few smart hacks, you can maintain a spotless bathroom without too much effort.

Whether you’re looking to create and maintain your cleaning routine or simply make everyday maintenance a breeze, these ten simple hacks will help you keep your bathroom looking its best.

1. Daily Wipe-Downs
The key to a consistently clean bathroom is regular maintenance. Make it a habit to wipe down surfaces daily. For every time every usage has left something unusual, in unusual places, then do well to wipe it off immediately, or even use a toilet brush when need be.

This doesn’t have to take long, just a quick swipe of a damp cloth or tissue on countertops, sinks, and the toilet seat can prevent grime, soap scum, and urine buildup. Use a bathroom cleaner or a mix of water and vinegar for a natural cleaning solution, if you are sensitive to other store-bought products. This daily habit will help prevent the accumulation of dirt and make deep cleaning less of a chore, on the set date.

2. Shower Squeegee Routine
One of the most effective tools for maintaining a clean bathroom is a squeegee. After every shower, spend a minute squeegeeing the walls, doors, and tiles to remove excess water.

This simple step prevents mould and mildew growth and keeps soap scum from building up. It’s a quick task that pays off big time in maintaining a clean, streak-free shower area, making the big clean day easy.

3. Use a Toilet Wand
Cleaning the toilet can be one of my least favourite chores, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. While some environmentally conscious people, will prefer reusable cleaning clothes to wipe down, others will simply use tissue, and flush it off immediately.

Others go for a toilet wand, which is a one-time use, which eliminates the need to touch a dirty brush and makes the task of toilet cleaning quicker and more hygienic, but producing more waste. Simply replace the pad after each use and store the wand discreetly behind the toilet or under the sink.

4. Keep Cleaning Supplies Accessible
Having your cleaning supplies within arm’s reach can make all the difference. Keep a cleaning caddy filled with essentials like toilet cleaner, a scrubbing brush, bathroom wipes, and all-purpose spray under the sink, or in a closet nearby, especially if you have little ones running around the house.

This makes it easy to tackle spills and messes as soon as they happen, preventing them from becoming more significant problems later on.
5. Deep Clean the Showerhead
A neglected showerhead can become clogged with mineral deposits from the water, especially if you reside in a neighbourhood with hard water, which doubles the deposits, which can affect water pressure and lead to a build-up of bacteria.

To keep your showerhead clean, periodically remove it and soak it in a vinegar solution (half water, half vinegar) overnight. This will dissolve the mineral deposits and ensure the water flows freely. You can also use an old toothbrush to scrub away any black residue.

6. Declutter Countertops and Storage Areas
Clutter can make a bathroom feel dirty and unorganised, which is where the bathroom shelves or counters come in. Keep countertops clear by storing items in cabinets or drawers, assigning every item a place.

Use baskets or bins to organise toiletries, hair products, clippers, hair dryers, and makeup items. This keeps the bathroom tidy and makes it easier to clean. Having fewer items out in the open means there’s less to dust, rearrange, and clean around.
7. Regular Toilet Bowl Maintenance
Prevent the build-up of stains in the toilet bowl by using a toilet cleaner tablet. These tablets are designed to dissolve slowly, releasing a fresh scent and preventing rings from forming. Drop one in the tank once a week for a cleaner bowl and fresher smell with minimal effort.

Additionally, avoid flushing items like wipes or cotton balls that can lead to clogs and dirty-looking water. Also if you are the only one using your toilet, feel free to don your PPEs, and thoroughly scrub your toilet bowl. That perfect clean makes all the difference.

8. Use a Drain Strainer
A simple but highly effective hack is using a drain strainer in the shower and sink. These small devices catch hair, soap scum, and other debris before they go down the drain, preventing clogs and making it easier to clean up. Clean the strainer regularly to keep your drains free-flowing and reduce the need for harsh chemical drain cleaners.

9. Maintaining Mirror Cleanliness
Mirrors can easily get streaked with toothpaste splatters, skincare products, saliva, soap, and water droplets. Use a microfiber cloth or a newspaper to wipe the mirror for a streak-free shine. The option of an abrasive sponge use also exists. There is also A DIY solution of equal parts vinegar and water also works wonders. Regularly cleaning your bathroom mirrors will keep them clear and free from spots, making the space look relaxing.

10. Schedule Weekly Deep Cleans
Set aside time once a week to do a deeper cleaning in the bathroom, maybe on Saturdays. This might involve scrubbing the grout, wiping down surfaces with disinfectant, or cleaning the shower curtain. By dedicating a bit of time each week to a deeper clean, you prevent dirt and grime from building up, making it less overwhelming when it’s time to clean again.

By incorporating these simple hacks into your routine, you’ll be able to maintain a clean and fresh bathroom with minimal effort. A clean bathroom not only feels more comfortable to use but also contributes to a more pleasant overall home environment. With these tips, you’ll enjoy a sparkling bathroom all year round, especially if you are not a big fan of cleaning.
